Experience.
Geo Prose has more than 25 years of experience editing and designing scientific program plans, institutional strategic plans, workshop reports, and related summaries and brochures, as well as websites, ad campaigns, and promotional materials.
Who we are.
Ellen Kappel, president of Geo Prose, received a BA in geology from Cornell University and a PhD in marine geology and geophysics from the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. Prior to establishing Geo Prose, she was a program manager with the Ocean Drilling Program for 12 years at Joint Oceanographic Institutions where she worked with science committees on a regular basis, wrote program plans and budgets, and developed newsletters and promotional and educational materials. In addition to running Geo Prose, Ellen is editor, Oceanography magazine. In 2022, the American Geophysical Union presented Ellen with the Waldo E. Smith Award.
Johanna Adams, graphic designer, has a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts and mathematics from the State University of New York at Geneseo. After graduating, Johanna worked with the Ocean Drilling Program for 10 years at Joint Oceanographic Institutions where her duties included the design and production of project reports and many other publications. After, she worked as a graphic designer for Xceed, a dot-com firm in Sausalito, California. In addition to her work for Geo Prose, Johanna is the graphic designer for Oceanography and the webmaster for The Oceanography Society and Ocean Optics Conference websites.
